Freight patterns showed increased retail trade ahead of Memorial Day weekend, and since some drivers finished the week up early ahead of the holiday weekend, capacity also tightened. In general, markets that feed into the Northeast were up, while Denver, Seattle , and rates coming out of the Northeast were down. Out West, L.A.

A number of factors have led to loose capacity, though, which has kept rates from going up. The only lane on the top 100 that was up more than 7¢ was Denver to Stockton , though that wasn’t entirely good news. Outbound rates trended down last month in Savannah, Jacksonville and Los Angeles.

Outbound rates fell in key Northern markets, including Chicago , Denver , and Philadelphia. Jacksonville is also going strong, with big rate increases on the lanes to Miami up 13¢, and to New Orleans , up 40¢ Rates are rocketing up in Raleigh , after a down month. and Stockton.
