Rates and Demand Are Still High for Refrigerated Freight

Seasonal harvests are winding down, but capacity is still tight for reefer freight. Reefer rates on the lane from Sacramento to Portland soared 70¢ to $3.42/mile. Fresno to Seattle was up 30¢ to $2.80/mile. That’s led to higher reefer rates on the West Coast and in the Midwest. Be careful out there.

There was a big surge in reefer freight out of Elizabeth, NJ, though rates haven't responded yet. to Portland, OR was up 45¢ to $3.33/mile. Sacramento to Portland added 50¢ to 3.21/mile.

Shipments out of the Santa Maria District also pushed rates up out of the Fresno market. Out West, Sacramento to Portland gained 22¢ to $2.44/mile.
