Higher van volumes fail to boost rates

Van freight volumes did increase more than 6% in the last week of March, but there was enough capacity to cover the demand. Allentown to Cleveland dropped 13¢ to $1.65/mi. Denver to Oklahoma City slipped 14¢ to $1.12/mi. The end of Q1 was relatively quiet on the truckload spot market.

Hot Flatbed Segment Shows Signs of Cooling

Demand for flatbeds has been red hot for months, and so are rates. Flatbed demand is extremely strong throughout the country. Houston to Oklahoma City slipped 52¢ to $3.44/mile. Cleveland to Harrisburg, PA dropped 51¢ to $3.89/mile, RISING MARKETS. mile, which is still very high.

Extra capacity takes a bite out of prices

Houston to Oklahoma City rose 13¢ to $2.18/mile. Reefer load counts rebounded 25% last week after the New Year’s interruption, but once again there was plenty of capacity to handle the demand. Grand Rapids to Cleveland climbed 39¢ to $2.82/mile. Still, not many lanes had high higher rates last week.
