Flatbed ratio reverses 10-week decline

More loads are moving out of Cleveland and Houston, but the big surprise was a surge in volume and rates out of Roanoke, Virginia. Roanoke to Cleveland gained 61¢ to $3.43/mile. Rock Island, IL to Indianapolis fell 55¢ to $3.30/mile, The national average flatbed rate dropped 1¢ to $2.66/mile, NOT SO HOT.

Spot market demand heats up out West

DAT Solutions

Last week saw strong movements out of Baltimore, Fort Worth, Cleveland and Savannah. Roanoke to Cleveland gained 54¢ to $2.67/mi. Cleveland to Milwaukee increased 50¢ to $4.38/mi. Rock Island to Indianapolis dropped 53¢ $2.91/mi. Flatbed markets have been up and down for the past month or more.

October Flatbed Rates Were Highest of the Year

Rock Island, IL, to Indianapolis also climbed to $3.03/mile. The lane from Cleveland to Harrisburg backed off some previous highs, falling to $3.56/mile. All rates below include fuel surcharges and are based on real transactions between brokers and carriers. Las Vegas to Sacramento averaged $3.19/mile. mile last week.

Flatbed Demand Soars, Boosting Rates 11¢

Cleveland to Harrisburg lost 41¢ to $3.99/mile. Rock Island, IL to Indianapolis was 41¢ lower, at $3.26/mile. Rates fell on many lanes in the Midwest and Northeast last week, as snowstorms disrupted traffic on some roads. Pittsburgh to Grand Rapids rates fell 42¢ to $3.42/mile.

September Van and Reefer Trends Stay Strong After Labor Day

Chicago, Cleveland, Columbus, Indianapolis, and Joliet, IL , were all in the top 10 for load posts on DAT Load Boards last week. Prices in Chicago, Columbus, Seattle, and Philadelphia are all higher than they were a month ago. Rates on the lane from Columbus to Buffalo rose 27¢ and paid $2.76/mile mile on average.

Spot Freight Volumes Get Welcomed Boost

Memphis to Indianapolis was more typical of retail lanes last week, falling 20¢ to $1.90/mile. Grand Rapids, MI , had a couple strong lanes despite an overall slip in volumes: Grand Rapids to Cleveland gained 50¢ at $4.12/mile. One example was Atlanta to Chicago , down 14¢ to $1.47/mile. Delayed Produce Could Lead to a Busy May

The top 4 were the same as last week – Atlanta, Charlotte, Houston and Dallas – but Indianapolis edged out Memphis for the no. Grand Rapids to Cleveland fell on lower volumes, down 28¢ to $2.92/mile.
