Drone manufacturer AgEagle acquires SaaS provider Measure Global

Wichita, Kansas-based AgEagle will pay $45 million for Measure in a combination of cash and stock. AgEagle Aerial Systems Inc. NYSE: UAVS ) has acquired Measure Global, a provider of cloud-based software-as-a-service operating systems for drone operators.

October Flatbed Rates Were Highest of the Year

Houston prices have mostly been neutral, but the lane to Wichita, KS , fell to just $1.77/mile. The national flatbed rate for October was the highest of the year, boosted at least in part by rebuilding efforts in Florida and the Gulf Coast after the storms from a couple months ago. Volumes were up and down over the course of the month, though, as markets adjusted to constantly changing demand. The Memphis market posted the biggest gains for October, with outbound flatbed rates up 10%.

FreightWaves Haul of Fame: Georgia Highway Express grew via acquisition; was an intermodal pioneer

TNT Dugan was based in Wichita, Kansas, and the acquisition expanded its operations in the Southeast. Georgia Highway Express, was founded by Henry Winship in Macon, Georgia in September 1928. The company’s main operating area was between Macon and Milledgeville, Georgia.

Flatbed Rates Set Another Record

Lanes going to Wichita, KS , were down 34¢ to $2.81/mile. Demand for flatbed transportation has been off the charts for much of 2018. For a seven-week stretch in April and May, the national load-to-truck ratio was above 100 loads per truck. Flatbed ratios are often inflated because loads get reposted and truckers in that segment are the least likely to post their trucks, but those ratios were still unprecedented.
