Flatbed load counts are still strong in Texas , but it was the port cities of Los Angeles and Jacksonville that propelled rates, along with inland markets like Cleveland, Raleigh, and Rock Island, IL. Rates on the top 100 van lanes showed the strongest surge of the year.

We had a great turnout with over 120 executives at our SCRC meeting today at the downtown Marriott in Raleigh. The theme, Supplier-Led Innvoation, featured a number of excellent speakers and insights. After I did a kick-off discussion emphasizing the importance of trust, integrity, and leadership in driving innovation, Dan Kettler from John Deere followed up with a discussion on how Deere is implementing their Partner Integration program for branded products in Turf Care.

Outbound rates plummeted 20% in Raleigh over the past month, including a drop of 12¢ per mile just last week. Van and reefer volume increased last week, although rates were unchanged as a national average. Flatbed volume and rates continued to drift down.

October Flatbed Rates Were Highest of the Year

The biggest declines for the month were on lanes out of Raleigh and Baltimore. The national flatbed rate for October was the highest of the year, boosted at least in part by rebuilding efforts in Florida and the Gulf Coast after the storms from a couple months ago.
