Outbound volumes from Houston also fell 73%, but the rearrangement of supply chains, the difficulty of shipping in the flooded region, and increased seasonal demand in other parts of the country combined to create pockets of tight capacity that put extra pressure on truckload rates. That could have been a contributing factor to the tighter reefer truckload capacity that we saw last week, with truck posts on DAT load boards down 5% for reefers. We'll have to wait and see how the trends play out when reefer demand heats back up. Out of California , Fresno outbound pricing jumped 4.4% NOT SO HOT.

Refrigerated freight was met with tight capacity last week, with the annual Roadcheck inspection blitz taking many trucks off the road. That, combined with higher demand out of California, led to some big spikes in reefer rates. Dallas reefer rates continued to surge, with beef and other meat products on the move.

Darker states in the map above shows where there's stronger demand for trucks. The southern band of states still have the highest demand for trucks , but the Midwest and Northeast continue to heat up. Atlanta is the top market for load posts on DAT Load Boards , and tighter capacity has led to higher rates there.

Most parts of California are shipping more loads, especially the Fresno market in central California. loads per truck, with areas of tight capacity in a few northern states. The ratio is a sensitive, real-time indicator of the balance between demand and capacity. Nogales to Dallas was up 15¢ to $2.24/mile.
