Reefer rates on the lane from Sacramento to Portland soared 70¢ to $3.42/mile. Fresno to Seattle was up 30¢ to $2.80/mile. Sacramento to Denver gained 29¢ at $2.55/mile. The weakest reefer lane was Lakeland, FL to Charlotte , down 30¢ to $1.19/mile, Chicago to Kansas City also had a big increase at $3.48/mile,

The biggest spike was on the lane from Charlotte to Buffalo , which jumped up 44¢ to an average of $2.74/mile. The lane from Sacramento to Denver paid 24¢ better on average, at $2.63/mile. Crop production is rising out of the Northwest, so reefer rates fell on inbound lanes like Sacramento to Portland , OR.

HOT MARKETS: The biggest changes last week were in California, where reefer freight finally started to move out of Fresno and Sacramento in serious quantities, but load counts fell sharply in L.A. Sacramento to Portland , OR rates soared 31¢ to $2.77 and Ontario. per mile.

Buffalo to Charlotte also gained 10¢, rising to $2.13/mi. Charlotte to Allentown moved down 13¢ to $2.08/mi. Freight volumes were up more than 20% in the Lakeland, Florida market, as well as in Sacramento and Fresno , California. Fresno to Denver surged 40¢ to $2.24/mi. Falling rates. Rising Rates.

We did get the expected bump in rates out of Fresno though, and California produce shipments are expected to remain strong at least until the 4th of July. A few lanes out of California crossed the $3 mark: The biggest jump in price was on the lane from Fresno to Denver , which surged 61¢ to $3.14/mile.

Reefer load posts spiked in Charlotte last week ahead of Hurricane Matthew. Out West, Fresno and nearby Sacramento were off for this time of year. The lane from Fresno to Denver was down 21¢ to $2.01/mile, mile, and the average reefer rate for Sacramento to Salt Lake City fell 20¢ to $2.27/mile.

Fresno and Sacramento have lots of loads, too. There's been a shortage of trucks in Arkansas , Mississippi and Alabama , and outbound rates are jumping in Charlotte , Atlanta and Memphis.
