Better weather helps push van rates upward

Memphis to Indianapolis jumped 17¢ to $2.10/mi. Chicago to Columbus dipped 8¢ to $2.39/mi. A couple of lanes into Buffalo had decent rate increases, possibly reflecting increased demand for exports into Canada. Philadelphia to Buffalo rose 11¢ to $2.17/mi. Charlotte to Buffalo also rose 11¢ to $2.24/mi.

Van Rates Close Q2 With a Bang

Memphis to Indianapolis climbed 37¢ to an average of $3.34/mile. Memphis to Columbus also rose 37¢ to $3.49/mile Farther north, Columbus to Allentown, PA , was up 28¢ to $3.83/mile. All rates below include fuel surcharges and are based on real transactions between brokers and carriers.

Spot Freight Volumes Get Welcomed Boost

Columbus, OH, had spikes on a pair of lanes shipping into the Northeast, which is unusual for this time of year: Columbus to Buffalo was up 17¢ to $2.79/mile. Columbus to Allentown, PA , added 17¢ at $2.88/mile. Memphis to Indianapolis was more typical of retail lanes last week, falling 20¢ to $1.90/mile.

September Van and Reefer Trends Stay Strong After Labor Day

Chicago, Cleveland, Columbus, Indianapolis, and Joliet, IL , were all in the top 10 for load posts on DAT Load Boards last week. Rates on the lane from Columbus to Buffalo rose 27¢ and paid $2.76/mile mile on average.

Van rates drop to 16-month low

We’re seeing weakness in Chicago , Los Angeles , and much of the Southeast region: Chicago to Columbus fell 19¢ to $2.71/mile. Memphis to Indianapolis dipped 16¢ to $2.01/mile. That was one of the few lanes paying above $3 per mile, probably because of the crazy cold weather in Upstate New York.
