Seattle had been riding high for the past 4 to 6 weeks, but outbound rates slipped last week. Out West, Fresno and nearby Sacramento were off for this time of year.

Reefer load counts stayed high through the second week of January, with temperature-controlled trailers being used in many areas to keep freight from freezing in the cold weather. Prices continued to slide out of Florida and California , with the exception of Sacramento. Ice and snow also caused hazardous road conditions in some areas.

Out of California, the lane from Ontario to Seattle was up 30¢ to $2.35/mile. Sacramento to Denver also added 30¢ at an average of $2.32/mile,

Van load counts were already up big last week, with an uptick in freight moving out of L.A. Seattle to Eugene, OR was up 13¢ to $2.13/mile. Sacramento to Denver slipped 14¢ to $2.17/mile. Outbound averages fell in N ogales and Fresno , but that had more to do with a change in where the freight was going.
