Better weather helps push van rates upward

Memphis to Indianapolis jumped 17¢ to $2.10/mi. Philadelphia to Buffalo rose 11¢ to $2.17/mi. We're finally seeing the impact of better spring weather, with higher freight volumes coming out of both Chicago and Charlotte. Charlotte to Buffalo also rose 11¢ to $2.24/mi. Falling rates.

Van rates drop to 16-month low

Philadelphia to Charlotte added 10¢ to $1.60/mile. Memphis to Indianapolis dipped 16¢ to $2.01/mile. Atlanta to Philadelphia moved down 15¢ to below the $2 mark at $1.94/mile. And rates out of Denver are holding up, for the second week in a row. Denver to Oklahoma City rates rose 13¢ to $1.34/mile.

Mid-May Spot Market Has Been a Mixed Bag

Philadelphia to Boston was also up 16¢ to $3.18/mile. Memphis to Indianapolis isn't a lane we talk a lot about and it's rarely among the top gainers, but the average rate jumped up 12¢ last week to $1.89/mile. For a lane less produce-dependent, Atlanta to Philadelphia rates rose 27¢ to $2.57/mile.
