Supply Chain Performance Declined In the Last Decade. The Question is Why?

Yes, companies held more inventory (measured in days of inventory) in 2019 than at the start of the 2007 recession. Average performance in 2016-2019 across twenty-seven manufacturing sectors on inventory turns, Return on Invested Capital and operating margin was worse than in 2012-2015. Inventories grew twenty days over the decade.

The first, and my major issue with the Gartner Top 25 methodology, is that it attempts to compare all companies in a spreadsheet. The methodology unfairly favors companies that do not have assets. The reason is that as a chemical company, they must run assets, and the methodology penalizes companies with deep asset strategies.
