Projections for Central California produce are still strong for June, so we’re keeping an eye on the Fresno market, but those shipping gaps meant that rates didn’t continue their upward trend on many of the top reefer lanes. Texas is still ahead of California for reefer load availability, but the gap is narrowing.

California and Texas remain in flux with overall volumes roughly the same the last several weeks. Reefer produce failed to climb at the end of July, due in part to a sharp decline in volumes from Fresno.

Of course, the biggest disruptions were down in Texas, and the big changes largely mirrored van trends. Out of California, Fresno to Denver rates hit $2.39, up 30¢ from the week before. Big advances in Florida and modest gains in California were wiped out by losses in volumes from the Upper Midwest and Texas. Georgia beat out Texas to become the number-one state for reefer loads last week, with California as a distant third. OTHER) HOT MARKETS - Outbound volume and rates picked up in Fresno , which may signal a belated improvement in Central California's produce yields. Load-to-truck ratios are way up in the Golden State for vans and reefers, and there are more loads available there right now than in any state except Texas and Georgia.
