Flatbed Demand Soars, Boosting Rates 11¢

Houston is the top market for flatbed loads. Houston to Ft Worth added 23¢, to $2.80/mile. Rock Island, IL to Indianapolis was 41¢ lower, at $3.26/mile. Anyway, that extra demand signaled a rate increase on 50 of the top 78 flatbed lanes last week, and the national average rate gained 11¢ , to $2.50/mile.

October Flatbed Rates Were Highest of the Year

Rock Island, IL, to Indianapolis also climbed to $3.03/mile. Houston prices have mostly been neutral, but the lane to Wichita, KS , fell to just $1.77/mile. All rates below include fuel surcharges and are based on real transactions between brokers and carriers. Las Vegas to Sacramento averaged $3.19/mile. mile last week.

Mid-May Spot Market Has Been a Mixed Bag

In Texas, Houston volumes rose 5%, but were down 3% in Dallas. No major van markets made any big moves in one direction or the other last week, but outbound rates in Houston and Los Angeles have both risen by 5% over the past month. Along the Gulf Coast, Houston to New Orleans was up 15¢ to an average of $2.53/mile.

Van Rates Hit Highest Mark in 2 Years
