A Better Approach to Supply Chain Segmentation?

ToolsGroup

Most companies segment their supply chain by breaking it down according to operational and logistical metrics. But there is another way to segment supply chains that begins with the customer. Gartner research director Jennifer Loveland calls it end-to-end segmentation, where you determine first what your customers want, then create end-to-end models—from sales through sourcing, delivery, and customer service—to serve them.

How to Attain “Stage 4” Supply Chain Planning Maturity

ToolsGroup

Gartner has identified five stages of supply chain planning maturity and they say that 70-80% of companies plan to increase their supply chain planning (SCP) technology spend over the next two years to climb to the next level. In their recent report titled Carefully Assess Which Tools Are Right for Each Stage of Supply Chain Planning Maturity (20 October 2017, Tim Payne & Amber Salley), the analyst firm describes the right tools to get from one level to the next.

Gartner Releases a New S&OP Magic Quadrant

ToolsGroup

One example of a changing user requirement is the ascendancy of supply chain modeling to the highest priority in Gartner’s Market Ranking of S&OP Capabilities. Therefore, users' requirements are more oriented toward enterprise-level S&OP, with strong supply chain modeling, financial impact analysis and tight integration back into the operational planning environment.”. Globalization Drives Market Need for SC Segmentation

Supply Chain Movement

Businesses continue look to their supply chain operations for opportunities to streamline business processes, reduce costs, improve customer service, gain a competitive edge, and face any disruptions caused by global commerce uncertainties. Particularly among companies with thousands of SKUs and diverse product lines, there is a need for differentiated replenishment and logistics approaches across complex supply chains. Supply chain challenges.

Avoid “Lost in Translation”. Monetize S&OP to Include Finance.

ToolsGroup

Finance speaks a different language than supply chain. But by monetizing Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP), supply chain planners can speak the language of finance while developing S&OP into a more mature process. It’s a problem of “lost in translation”—the differing lingo used by the finance side versus planning, supply, production and logistics. The language of finance is numbers, but they’re different numbers than the ones used by supply chain.

The 6 W’s of Supply Chain Planning Systems of Record

E2open

The 6 W’s of Supply Chain Planning Systems of Record. If you’re unfamiliar with the term “supply chain planning system of record,” it is essentially the one place where an organization can bring together all supply chain data and plan its enterprise operations. Given that supply chain management is a continuous journey, when is the right time to establish a planning system of record? Multi-tier supply chain.

Becoming demand-driven on command

Supply Chain Movement

My hand was enjoying the warmth from the porcelain coffee cup and I was loving the solitude when a supply chain leader approached me with a cup of tea in his hand. Use multiple sources of demand data in the forecast, and build a demand signal repository to harmonize and synchronize demand data from multiple sources. Translate independent demand into a product segmentation strategy. Actively design the supply chain. It was the end of a long day.

Building Your Supply Chain Strategy: Defining Customer-Centric Supply Chain Design for Manufacturing Companies

BlueYonder

In Part I of my Supply Chain Strategy series, I explained why the five tenets of High-Performing Supply Chains remain a great starting point to build your supply chain strategy. In Part II I explained how seeking inspiration from retailers can help manufacturing companies move beyond supply chain segmentation to embrace customer-centricity. This post will explore the three capabilities essential to supply chain redesign.

Order Promising and Demand Shaping in a Segmented, Omni-Channel World

BlueYonder

In a segmented, omni-channel world, available-to-promise (ATP) is seeing a renaissance. Omni-channel profitability for retailers and other value chain participants will increasingly depend on a matrix of available-to-promise possibilities across the various supply chain entities that make, move, and store inventory. Visibility to back-end material shortages and excesses were critical to making intelligent demand shaping offers on the front end of the supply chain.

Logistics Center of Excellence: Delivering Value to Organizations

Talking Logistics

Perhaps the most overworked word in the supply chain management lexicon is “visibility.” Yet it’s difficult to overstate the importance of a view into what’s going on in the supply chain. After all, you can’t source, make, move, store, deliver, measure or improve what you can’t see. At the same time, the value of supply chain visibility is lessened if it isn’t comprehensive – encompassing the supply chain from one end to the other, from upstream to downstream.

The Manufacturing Industry is Changing Fast — How Prepared are You?

BlueYonder

Agility will be a key factor, as manufacturers will need to be able to quickly shift their manufacturing strategy and supply chain processes to address market changes. Additionally, as customers look for personalized experiences, supply chain segmentation capabilities will become more critical to manufacturers’ success. A product that is fulfilled but with a poor experience, may not be ordered in the future — or a different source may be considered.

What You Really Need To Know About Your Suppliers – And Why

HICX Solutions

The regulatory and compliance burden has increased in recent years in terms of organisations needing to understand much more about their suppliers and supply chain. Segmenting your supply base. Organisations should segment their supply base for the purpose of considering these risks and understand that it’s not just the ‘most strategic’ suppliers that can be a source of issues in some of these regulated areas.

Balance and Segmentation – What the Election Can Teach Supply Chain

Kinaxis

In my opinion, these are factors that led to the pollsters being so far off on the 2016 US election, and how supply chain practitioners can help these pollsters to improve. Balance is also critical for supply chains. We must have an ability to monitor the supply chain, and detect when it goes out of balance. I say mature, as most supply chains can detect the cost based – unit demand vs unit supply imbalance. This is segmentation.

2012 Supply Chain Predictions: Is the End of the World Nigh?

Supply Chain Network

In the tradition of David Letterman, (in no particular order) let’s hit the Top 10 Supply Chain Predictions for 2012. Supply chain risk will not go away. At the start of 2011, I wrote a blog (Supply Chain Risk and Charles Darwin) that highlighted 2010 as the worst on record for supply chain disruptions. Therefore it is not surprising that focusing on managing and mitigating risk across global supply chains appear on most lists.

Resilient and Cost Efficient Supply Chains

Discussion Questions: Carefully explain the difference between a “resilient” and an “efficient” supply chain. What strategies do the authors suggest for making a supply chain both “resilient” and “efficient” at the same time? Supply Chains Can Be Both Resilient and Cost Efficient. The problem, according to the authors, is that protective measures can be at odds with supply chain managers’ goal of improving cost efficiency.
