Logistics complexity – in the form of fragmented channels, increased product variations, and consumer demand for customized solutions – has been increasing, according to a global study published recently by BVL International, a worldwide supply chain and logistics membership organization. The study included more than 60 interviews with global supply chain executives and survey responses from 1,757 executives.

Early in the week I sat in on a lecture given by Clay Christenson (from Harvard Business School) to a number of senior supply chain executives at a gathering at the new 7 World Trade Center in New York. Later in the week, I traveled to Monterrey, Mexico to speak to a group of executives at Xignux, a large private manufacturing company of cable, food products, engineering services, and power generation equipment.
