Yesterday, the White House announced that President Obama plans to remove Cuba from the U.S. Cuba relations. All this talk about Cuba, however, sparked a question for me this week: Where does Cuba rank in logistics? The answer, according to the World Bank’s Logistics Performance Index (LPI) , is near the bottom of the list. Germany through Japan are the Top 10, Cuba through Somalia are the Bottom 9, with other countries shown for reference.

A colleague and I traveled to Cuba in March as part of a trade delegation with Engage Cuba, a coalition of private businesses and organizations working to end the travel and trade embargo on Cuba. credit cards don’t work in Cuba, and there are no ATMs. Yet, while most Cubans I met seemed to want to have the barriers lifted, they also want to preserve the Cuba that exists today. XPO Logistics announced this week that it has acquired UX Specialized Logistics (“UX”), “a North American provider of last mile logistics services for major retail chains and e-commerce companies.”. Who knows, maybe we’ll see TMC open a Control Tower in Cuba in the not too distant future, in which case I’ll promptly invite myself over for a tour.

The Netherlands is the best region for a logistics base according to the ‘VerkehrsRundschau Markenstudie ImageRanking’. The market study by VerkehrsRundschau (a leading German magazine with a website about transport and logistics) assessed the attractiveness of the countries close to Germany as a base for logistics activities. FedEx Delivers to Cuba. FedEx became the first American freight carrier with rights to deliver freight to Cuba. A newly formed APICS Certified in Logistics, Transportation, and Distribution (CTLD) credential program aims to set the global standard for best practices. Hurricane Irma: Updates and Impacts
