Higher prices out of Memphis and Columbus tell us that retail traffic is moving, and higher rates out of Dallas and Seattle show us that the improvement is far-reaching. Asparagus, beans, and peas are shipping out of Western Michigan, and reefer rates on the lane from Grand Rapids to Philadelphia jumped up 47¢ to $3.17/mile.

Columbus is a key distribution point for the Midwest and the Northeast, and it shipped more to the Southeast after the storms. Columbus to Memphis climbed 37¢ to $2.28/mile. We expect load counts to pick up there and in the border market of McAllen, TX , with avocados shipping ahead of Cinco de Mayo.
