HOT MARKETS – Outbound rates rose by about 10 cents per mile last week in Atlanta , Charlotte , and Memphis , while Dallas rates added an average of 5¢ per mile. Of all those, Atlanta was an absolutely red-hot market last week. Trucks got a 30¢ raise on the lane from Atlanta to Columbus , to $2.20

Rock Island, IL, to Indianapolis also climbed to $3.03/mile. Atlanta rates were down in general, but the lane to Baltimore climbed to $2.95/mile Flatbed rates were down out of a handful of Sunbelt markets: Atlanta, Savannah, Fort Worth, and Phoenix. Memphis had a huge load-to-truck ratio and peak volumes on Friday, trailing only Atlanta in load counts at the end of the week. Memphis to Indianapolis climbed 37¢ to an average of $3.34/mile. Atlanta to Lakeland, FL , also added 27¢ at $3.60/mile. Farther north, Columbus to Allentown, PA , was up 28¢ to $3.83/mile.

With the shift of activity from the South to the Midwest, we saw some seasonal declines on lanes out of Atlanta. One example was Atlanta to Chicago , down 14¢ to $1.47/mile. Memphis to Indianapolis was more typical of retail lanes last week, falling 20¢ to $1.90/mile. Chicago to Atlanta adjusted up 23¢ to $2.59/mile.
