Reefer rates rise as Florida hits its stride

Florida Reefer Rates Take a Dive

Peak season for Florida seems to have come to a close, and reefer rates responded accordingly. Aside from Florida, the southern band of states from California eastward experienced high demand for reefers last week. Miami to Baltimore dove 59¢ to $2.91/mile. Lakeland to Baltimore fell 46¢ to $2.93/mile.

Reefer rates hit lull between holidays

Twin Falls, ID, to Baltimore gained 24¢ at $3.26. Florida rates backed off after some off-season increases earlier in the month. Fresno to Baltimore fell 29¢ at $2.41/mile. McAllen, TX, to Atlanta rose 25¢ to $2.36. Falling Lanes. Miami to Elizabeth, NJ , dropped 28¢ to $1.86/mile.

October Flatbed Rates Were Highest of the Year

The national flatbed rate for October was the highest of the year, boosted at least in part by rebuilding efforts in Florida and the Gulf Coast after the storms from a couple months ago. Atlanta rates were down in general, but the lane to Baltimore climbed to $2.95/mile Roanoke, VA, to Harrisburg, PA, surged to $3.41/mile.

Reefer Rates Continue to Cool

Reefer rates out of Florida had been unusually high for a while, but volumes have started to back down. As a result, rates fell on a couple of lanes out of Miami: Miami to Baltimore lost 39¢ at $2.05/mile, mile, and the cross-country haul from Twin Falls to Baltimore paid 34¢ less on average at $2.48/mile.

Reefer Demand Spikes During Inspection Blitz

Rates out of Florida continued to slide, but on the flip side, reefer rates were up big from Atlanta heading into Florida. Other Florida reefer prices tumbled. Miami to Baltimore was down 33¢ to $2.28/mile. Sacramento to Portland added 50¢ to 3.21/mile. mile both there and back.
