The goal was to consolidate redundant distribution center (DC) locations, store the parts from both brands in all the DCs, and service the dealer networks while achieving an unprecedentedly high customer satisfaction target of 95% across the board. They came without any changes to the DC network or the 3PL contracts.

It is better to receive inventory on a loading dock, take the inventory needed for a hot shot shipment, and move that inventory through the DC to a shipping dock where it is loaded on a truck. In an omnichannel world, companies have different flow paths to get products to consumers – buy in store, ship from a DC, ship from store, etc.

One of the keys to better visibility is data quality. Molex has been working to improve data quality since 2012 when they first put in Nexus. Data quality has also been improved based on the fact they are using one global instance of an ERP to store most of their data. Do we then want to fly extra product to the DC?
