Roanoke, VA , saw the biggest increases, but prices also rose out of Dallas, Fort Worth, Baltimore and Birmingham.

California is also hot for reefers, with rates trending up in Ontario and Sacramento. Rates are up for flatbeds in some Sun Belt markets, particularly Jacksonville in the Southeast, Dallas and neighboring Fort Worth, plus Phoenix. Rates are up in some Sun Belt markets, however, including Dallas and Fort Worth.

Last week, flatbed volumes surged 10% higher, led by Houston, Fort Worth and Cleveland. The oil industry has also fueled the Texas markets: Rates were higher last week out of Dallas and Fort Worth , while Houston held firm. The national average flatbed rate for April was $2.65/mile, And there are no signs of a slowdown.

Flatbed rates were down out of a handful of Sunbelt markets: Atlanta, Savannah, Fort Worth, and Phoenix. Atlanta rates were down in general, but the lane to Baltimore climbed to $2.95/mile mile last week. The biggest declines for the month were on lanes out of Raleigh and Baltimore.

Rates in Fort Worth are rebounding now, from a downturn earlier in the month. Flatbed freight is also strongest in the Southeast. The biggest improvement in June volume and rates came in Tampa , followed by Savannah , which may be related to an increase in port traffic.
