Otherwise, reefer trends were all over the place last week. Out West, Fresno and nearby Sacramento were off for this time of year. Spot market rates were up last week, but volumes fell.

Expectations of a post-Easter rebound failed to materialize in reefer produce freight last week. REEFER TRENDS. Reefer freight volumes were up double-digit percentage points coming out of Sacramento , Chicago , Elizabeth, NJ, and Lakeland, FL. Lakeland, FL had about 20% more loads, but Miami saw loads fall about 8%.

December was arguably the strongest month for freight in 2016. Spot market volumes still look strong, but contract freight has been a little slow. There's more freight moving out of Houston this month. Just like with vans, it may be a case of less contract freight moving, which has led to more capacity on the spot market.
