Even though van and flatbed rates lost 1¢ per mile last week as a national average, the underlying trends were strong. The national average rate for vans lost a penny last week, but the underlying trend was mixed. Regional trends for vans can be divided into two groups: South and North.

The biggest declines for the month were on lanes out of Raleigh and Baltimore. Atlanta rates were down in general, but the lane to Baltimore climbed to $2.95/mile mile last week. Flatbed rates were down out of a handful of Sunbelt markets: Atlanta, Savannah, Fort Worth, and Phoenix.

Flatbed rates declined significantly in a handful of lanes: Raleigh to Greenville, SC plunged $1.20 Falling Markets. Outbound prices slipped lower for flatbeds in Baltimore and Savannah, which could be related to port traffic. Cleveland to Harrisburg dropped 74¢ to $3.62/mile. Birmingham to Chicago fell 67¢ to $2.49/mile.
