Hurricane Michael halts shipments

One noteworthy thing was that pricing out of Atlanta and Charlotte was mostly neutral despite all the canceled shipments from there to Florida. Seattle to Salt Lake City lost 18¢ at $2.18, with fewer imports hitting the Seattle port. Rates fell on 70 of the top 100 van lanes. Houston to Oklahoma City dropped 19¢ to $2.04/mile.

Van freight stabilizes in early October

Rates are rising from Seattle to California, but otherwise the picture is weak for pricing. Traditional backhaul markets like Denver and Seattle held up, and Los Angeles continued to see price increases over the past month. Last week, the top 100 lanes saw volumes back off, after a strong finish to September. except in the West.

The biggest spike was on the lane from Charlotte to Buffalo , which jumped up 44¢ to an average of $2.74/mile. Seattle to Spokane was up 20¢ to $2.70/mile.
